Space technology deployed in Quebec healthcare facility
Today, a telemedicine hub pilot project was unveiled at the Pierrefonds CLSC, a local community healthcare service centre in the Montreal area. This hub uses healthcare technologies integrated by Canadian company Baüne as part of the Canadian Space Agency's (CSA) Connected Care Medical Modules (C2M2) initiative.
With this initiative launched in , the CSA wanted to build on Canada's rich history in space innovations to develop new areas of expertise, such as independent and autonomous healthcare technologies. In the coming decades, people could be working and living on the Moon for months at a time, and even, one day, travelling to Mars. With little to no possibility of resupply and emergency evacuation, and significant communication delays during these missions, solutions to help keep them healthy and safe will become increasingly important.
C2M2s are integrated and easily deployable systems, bringing together different health technologies to address specific health issues. Baüne designed its solution with space in mind back in and have now adapted it to meet the needs of patients at the Pierrefonds CLSC.
This is a great example of how space-driven innovations can have a significant impact on life on Earth.
