Joshua Kutryk participates in underwater simulation of a lunar mission in California
From to , CSA astronaut Joshua Kutryk is participating in NASA's SEATEST 7 underwater mission, which is taking place on a lunar habitat mockup off Santa Catalina Island in California, at a depth of about nine metres.
To work towards establishing a long-term presence on and around the Moon, astronauts, including Joshua Kutryk, will test a series of scenarios to plan for future logistics operations on the Moon. The main goal of SEATEST 7 is to optimize the transport of cargo from landers to crewed pressurized living volumes, like a rover or a lunar habitat.
Joshua Kutryk was assigned to a six-month mission on the International Space Station, which is scheduled to launch no earlier than . By participating in SEATEST 7, he is contributing to the efforts of astronauts around the world to advance lunar missions. His Canadian colleague Jenni Gibbons, who serves as backup astronaut for CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen for the Artemis II mission, participated in SEATEST 6 in .
