Objectives
The Institute of Aging, the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health, and the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), in partnership with the Canadian Frailty Network and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), are pleased to announce a new exciting funding opportunity.
This funding opportunity seeks to determine the effectiveness of an exercise countermeasure to mitigate health impacts associated with inactivity.
The ultimate goals are to develop solutions for:
- Astronauts in order to stay in good health during spaceflight and extended stays on the International Space Station, as well as in the foreseen deep space exploration program;
- Older adults experiencing periods of inactivity in order to inform transitions in care and/or improve their quality of life.
The Understanding the Health Impact of Inactivity funding opportunity will be using a bed rest paradigm in order to reproduce, on Earth, the inactivity and fluid shifts experienced by astronauts in space.
CSA encourages the Canadian health and biomedical community to submit proposals.
