Chris Hadfield : Because without gravity, fluid shifts and collects in our head and upper body. It causes facial swelling, nasal congestion, your sinus is never drained, so it makes it difficult to detect the more subtle smells in microgravity. There're burnt steak and gunpowder smell that many astronauts reported in the airlock. That's one of the few smells you can smell strongly but it is not exactly a spring garden.
