VLBI Space Observation Project (VSOP)

The VLBI Space Observatory Project (VSOP) uses Canadian technology and combines data from Japan's new Halca satellite with that from telescopes on Earth to create a virtual telescope dish twice the size of Earth and with up to 100 times the resolution of Hubble Space Telescope. Canadian scientists created their first VSOP image in July 1997 of the distant galaxy PKS 1055+018. (Credit: Canadian Space Agency)
