Artemis
The European Space Agency's most advanced sophisticated communications satellite was launched into geostationary orbit 36,000 kilometres above Earth on July 2001 from Kourou, French Guiana, on an Ariane 5 rocket. Artemis provides better coverage for mobile communications, navigation and satellite-to-satellite communications services in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Two prominent Canadian companies contributed essential elements: the ka-band output multiplexers and the radiofrequency front-end module (RFE). (Credit: Communications Research Center Canada (CRC))
