Annie Martin

What is unique about your job?
It involves leading a team to position Canada as a key contributor of medical technologies for deep-space missions. This exemplifies interdisciplinary collaboration and leadership, bridging the gap between space exploration and public health.

Which professional accomplishment are you the most proud of?
I am most proud of my work on the Connected Care Medical Module, an innovative approach developed under the Health Beyond Initiative. This activity involves working with innovators, healthcare professionals, other government departments and international partners to create a portable, AI-enabled medical system that supports astronaut health during deep-space missions while also having significant applications for providing advanced healthcare in remote and underserved Earth communities. The successful deployment of the prototypes developed under this activity highlights the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and the potential to transform healthcare on Earth and in space.

Who or what helped you the most throughout your career?
The passion and leadership of my mentors and their support and trust pushed me to think outside the box, continually strive for excellence, and make a difference.

What advice would you offer to girls or women?
Cultivate your curiosity and creativity by embracing a global perspective and staying open to new ideas. Dare to think outside the box, push boundaries, and challenge the status quo to drive innovation and make a lasting impact.
