How SkyWatch is Leveraging Edge Computing in Space

Presentation 1 (in English)

From 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Joel Cumming, CTO
SkyWatch

The rapid growth of satellites, spacecraft, and sensors in orbit has led to an overwhelming amount of data in EO, and not all of it is useful. Traditional methods of handling this data are becoming inefficient and unsustainable. SkyWatch's Edge Computing in Space initiative addresses this challenge by bringing advanced computing capabilities closer to the source of data generation.

During this presentation, we will focus on the key features and underlying technology of SkyWatch's Edge Computing in Space. We will highlight the onboard computing systems, high-performance processors, and optimized software solutions designed for space applications. By deploying these technologies, we can enable faster, more efficient, and real-time analysis of vast amounts of EO-related data.

Through concise case studies, we will demonstrate the practical applications of Edge Computing in Space. Attendees will gain insights into how this initiative is revolutionizing EO, climate monitoring, precision agriculture, disaster management, and more.

Join us as we explore the future possibilities of Edge Computing in Space. Discover how this initiative will accelerate the extraction of actionable insights from EO data, drastically reduce costs, and enable timely decision making for all EO data consumers.

Bringing Earth Observation Analytics to the Cloud: Hatfield's Unexpected Journey

Presentation 2 (in English)

From 11:30 a.m. to noon

Jason Suwala
Hatfield

In a world where EO analytics platforms are as diverse as the races of Middle-earth, is there "one platform to rule them all"? How can we harness the power of open data stores, such as those offered by AWS and Azure? Should we not simply pledge our allegiance to Google Earth Engine? Embark on an epic journey with Hatfield as we recount our adventures in bringing EO analytics to the cloud. In this presentation, we will share the tales of our trials and triumphs in developing and deploying cloud-based EO solutions utilizing the latest technologies and best practices in cloud computing, geospatial data science, and machine learning. Together we will witness the power of the GEO Analytics Canada platform, a cloud-native, open, and scalable stronghold for big data geoscience. And as Canada sets forth on its quest to create Digital Earth Canada, we will discuss the opportunities and challenges of cloud-enabled EO analytics and how we can forge alliances with other EO stakeholders to build a "fellowship of platforms." Join us on this epic adventure to uncover the true power and potential of cloud-based EO analytics.
