Detailed description
RADARSAT Constellation Mission: Overview and Data Access
Daniel De Lisle and Stéphane Chalifoux
Canadian Space Agency
Launched in , the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) has captured over a million images, most of which are now available to the public. The three-satellite configuration allows for daily revisits of Canada’s vast territory and maritime approaches, as well as daily access to 90% of the world’s surface and the Arctic up to four times a day. Since , it has been possible to acquire Canada-wide coverage with a 30-metre resolution, every 12 days from April to November.
Over a dozen federal government departments use RADARSAT data to deliver important services to Canadians. The RCM is ensuring the ongoing availability of this data so that the Government of Canada can continue to serve Canadians.
The RCM is designed to provide effective solutions in three main areas:
- maritime surveillance (ice, surface wind, oil pollution and ship monitoring)
- disaster management (mitigation, warning, response and recovery)
- ecosystem monitoring (agriculture, wetlands, forestry and coastal change monitoring)
The presenters will give an overview of the RCM, then provide an update on the mission, particularly international collaborations. They will also touch on simplified access to RCM data, data usage, and publication of future acquisition plans.
Note: The presentation will be given in English, but participants will be able to ask questions in the official language of their choice.
