OSIRIS-REx returns sample of asteroid Bennu to Earth

2023-08-30 — On September 24, 2023, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft will release the sample of asteroid Bennu, which will parachute down into the Utah desert, in the United States. 

In exchange for our contribution to the mission, Canada will obtain a portion of the sample. We will become the fifth country to conserve a sample collected in space. Regolith from asteroid Bennu will be studied by generations of scientists from Canada and around the world. (Credits: Canadian Space Agency, NASA)

OSIRIS-REx is returning from its long journey. Its sample of asteroid Bennu will reach Earth on September 24, 2023.
